While the show is one of the most successful Paramount projects, there has been a lot of controversy around it, as well as the leading star, Jon Taffer. Here are several facts you may not have known about Bar Rescue.

1. Any struggling bar can participate. To appear on Bar Rescue and bring a distressed business back to life, bar owners can simply fill out an online application. At the same time, the showrunners often seek potential participants by themselves.
2. Fake or not? Many former participants revealed that when they appeared on Bar Rescue, producers fed them lines and staged many episodes. The stories of bar owner Ryan Burks and Piratz Tavern are just several examples of many accusations of fakery. On the other hand, Jon Taffer keeps claiming that the series is completely unscripted.
3. The shooting takes only 5 days. According to the show’s crew and cast members, the entire rescuing process lasts for 5 days, with all scenes filmed under an extremely tight schedule. But when watching the show, it often looks like a single episode covers a much longer period.
4. “Shut it down!” is a trademark. Every time Jon Taffer faces a violation of some basic business practices, he shouts the famous “Shut it down!” phrase. Moreover, Taffer turned this catchphrase into a trademark. Today, it’s actively used on various merchandise related to the series.  
5. True crime on Bar Rescue. In 2013, one of the show’s episodes featured Chris Ferrell – the owner of the Pit and Barrel bar in Nashville. According to Jon Taffer, the bar never used costly equipment, such as a large brewing system. Also, they didn’t follow the experts’ advice to change the menu. Eventually, the bar’s owners decided to sell their business.

8. The COVID-19 has changed Bar Rescue. The pandemic majorly influenced the hospitality industry. When new issues related to running a beverage business arose, the show had to adapt to it. In particular, Jon Taffer claimed that he now wants to motivate and inspire struggling bar owners instead of criticizing them for poor service and management.
9. Bar Rescue faced a couple of lawsuits. In 2014, a co-owner of the Sand Dollar bar in Las Vegas filed a suit against Taffer and Bar Rescue producers. On the show, he flirted with Taffer’s wife, who was sent to the bar undercover. After that, Taffer punched the owner, who later claimed that the entire incident was fake. Another suit took place in 2016. An employee of one bar featured in the series said that Taffer fired him due to racial and sexual discrimination.
