What is Iron Chef America about?
Iron Chef America is a reality TV cooking competition produced by Food Network that uses the main concept of the original Japanese program. In each episode, the show’s residents – master cooks known as “Iron Chefs” – are challenged by guest chefs. During just one hour, the contestants should cook 5 different dishes. Also, every episode comes with a twist. Usually, it’s one or several secret ingredients (from healthy proteins to vegetables and spices) introduced when the battle begins. The challenger who manages to eliminate all “Iron Chefs” receives a contract with the network and becomes a new “Iron Chef.”
The rules of the show’s most recent reboot, Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, are similar to the original series. Five “Iron Chefs” face challengers in each episode. Also, the show features judges and floor reporters. But, unlike in the previous versions, hosts Alton Brown and Kristen Kish try dishes and participate in debates with judges. The best challenger faces “Iron Chefs” once again at the end of the season, striving to become an “Iron Legend” and receive a special prize – the “Golden Knife.”
